How do I upload a file from my phone's media storage?

When you come across a media question, which is a question that requires a video or picture response (read more about media questions here), you'll have the option of answering the question in real-time or uploading a file from your phone's local media storage. To upload a file, check out the options below.

Uploading local media on Android devices

To upload a pre-recorded video or a photo from your mobile device's gallery on Android, follow the steps below:

  1. When you come across a media question, tap on the Add Video or Add Photo button in the middle of the screen.
  2. Make sure that you've given dscout permission to access your camera, microphone, and media storage (read more about granting permissions here). If you haven't given dscout permission to access these features, you might be prompted to do so here.
  3. A footer will appear with the options to Take Photo / Video or Gallery. Choose Gallery.
  4. Select the file from your mobile device's media storage that you wish to upload for your entry. You'll be able to review your video or crop your photo before you move forward to the next question.

Uploading local media on iOS devices

To upload a pre-recorded video or a photo from your mobile device's gallery on iPhones, follow the steps below:

  1. When you come across a media question, tap on the Add Video or Add Photo button in the middle of the screen.
  2. You'll be taken to dscout's camera interface in the app. Make sure that you've given dscout permission to access your camera. If you haven't given dscout permission to access your camera, your screen will be black.
  3. Tap on the File icon on the bottom-right corner of your screen while in the camera interface to access your phone's media storage. Again, if you haven't already given dscout access to your phone's media storage, you will be prompted to do so here (read more about this here).
  4. Select the file from your mobile device's media storage that you wish to upload for your entry. You'll be able to review your video or crop your photo before you move forward to the next question.

Pro tip: Once you've granted dscout permission to access your mobile device's media storage, you'll see your most recent picture or video on the bottom-right corner the next time you navigate to dscout's camera interface.
