What if my entries don't upload?

Occasionally, scouts will try to submit an entry, and it won't upload quite right even though they're using an Android phone running at least 4.1 or an iPhone 4s or newer. Here are the most common issues scouts experience:


Connectivity issues? Just tap to retry.

Nine times out of ten, if an entry doesn't upload correctly, it's due to connectivity issues. So all you'll need to do is tap to retry uploading your entry and leave dscout up on your phone as it works!  *Be sure you're connected to a strong Wi-Fi signal when retrying to upload your entry.* 

Below you can see the icon that appears when a entry fails to upload for either iOS or Android.

Entry submitted without its video or picture? Just fix missing media.

If your submitted entry included a media prompt, but for some reason the video or picture didn't make it through, just tap on that entry and select "fix media" to try again! You'll be able to either select a video/picture from your camera roll or take a new one.

PRO TIP: If you're trying to fix your missing media on an Android device but can't find the photo or video that you already took using the dscout app in your gallery, you may need to download a file manager (if you don't have one already) like ES File Explorer to track it down. After tapping "fix missing media" then "gallery" you can use your file explorer app to navigate to the media you're looking for, which should be stored in a file marked "images," "movies," or "dscout."

Entries stuck or app crashing? Clear uploads with errors & use native camera.

In the rare case that your entries get "stuck," and none of them are uploading even though you're connected to a strong Wi-Fi signal, your Android device is running 4.1 or newer, and you've updated the dscout app to its most recent version, you'll need to remove your pending entries by navigating to your profile > settings > clear uploads with errors. (Unfortunately, this means you'll have to resubmit your entries, but you should be able to select pictures or videos you took previously from your gallery rather than taking new ones.) 

And if your app tends to crash when you're trying to take a picture or video, checking the "use native camera" checkbox under "settings" should help. This means that when you get to the point in an entry where you're asked to submit a picture or video, you'll need to close dscout, open your phone's camera, and take a photo or video. Then you can open dscout back up and select the photo or video you've just taken from your phone's gallery to add it to your entry!

Still having trouble? Uninstall and reinstall.

If you're continuing to have general trouble with the app, go ahead and force quit the dscout app and restart it, then sign out and back into your account. (If you have forgotten your password, just click the "forgot password" link to reset it.)

If all else fails, delete the dscout app from your phone and reinstall it. All your profile data, mission history, and any submitted entries will all be saved! Only entries that haven't been submitted successfully will be lost.
